Rwanda’s flagship startup competition, Hanga PitchFest, has officially opened applications for its 2026 edition, inviting entrepreneurs and innovators from across the country to showcase groundbreaking ideas that have the potential to solve real world challenges and attract investment.
Now celebrating its sixth edition, Hanga PitchFest has become the country’s largest in person technology and innovation event. Since its launch, the initiative has supported more than 200 startups, attracted over 15,000 attendees, and facilitated more than RWF 600 million in investments and support for Rwanda’s innovation ecosystem.
Organized through a partnership involving the Ministry of ICT and Innovation (MINICT), the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), and UNDP Rwanda, the competition provides entrepreneurs with an opportunity to pitch their businesses before investors, industry leaders, policymakers, and development partners.
Successful applicants will gain access to mentorship, business development support, networking opportunities, and exposure to potential investors. The competition aims to help startups refine their business models while accelerating their journey from innovative ideas to scalable businesses.
Last year’s edition highlighted the growing strength of Rwanda’s startup ecosystem. Re Banatex, a company transforming banana stem waste into sustainable textiles, emerged as the overall winner, earning a RWF 50 million prize. Other finalists included innovative ventures tackling challenges in agriculture, healthcare, mobility, and sustainability.
Government leaders have consistently described Hanga PitchFest as a key driver of Rwanda’s ambition to become a regional innovation hub. Minister of ICT and Innovation Paula Ingabire has previously emphasized that the country’s future will be shaped by young innovators building practical solutions that improve lives and create jobs.
Applications for Hanga PitchFest 2026 are currently open, with innovators encouraged to submit startups capable of delivering meaningful social and economic impact. Selected participants will compete for funding, mentorship, and national recognition while joining a growing community of entrepreneurs transforming Rwanda’s innovation landscape.
