About Rwanda

Rwanda is bordered by Uganda to the north, Tanzania to the east, Burundi to the south and the Democratic republic of Congo to the west.

Despite being landlocked and one of Africa’s smallest countries, 26,338 sq km, Rwanda has an incredible treasure trove of diversity that requires protection. The Albertine-rift eco- zone (ARE), a region that stretches across six countries with Rwanda as its epi-centre, is of particular importance as it has an exceptional level of species endemism. Scientists regard it as having the highest levels of diversity on the continent.

The nature lover enjoying a safari in Rwanda will be impressed by the variety and the rarity of what can be observed visiting Rwanda, but there is more to Rwanda than protected mountain gorillas and Albertine endemics. The shores of Lake Kivu boast some of the best inland beaches in Africa and offer an opportunity to explore the many small islands of Lake Kivu.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

Things to See & Do in Rwanda

Rwanda is gifted with Mountain Gorillas found in Volcanoes National Park – ten habituated gorilla groups are found along side golden monkeys. The park is dominated by bamboo forest – making Gorilla trekking much easier in Rwanda compared to Uganda with impenetrable rain forest.

Gorilla trekking is the major tourist activity in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park – earns the country huge foreign exchange in the tourism sector. Much revenue from Gorilla trekking accounts for the Rwanda’s good infrastructure like roads, hospitals, accommodation, power and so on – which have facilitated the growth and development of Rwanda.

Not only Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda is also endowed with Akagera and Nyungwe Forest National Parks hosting a variety of wild life including the exciting chimpanzees – second selling after gorillas. Chimpanzee tracking has made Nyungwe forest one of the world’s forests of great importance due to the fact that 13 primates are hosted there – it’s among the word’s leading forest for hosting many primate species.

In Rwanda, the big five animals are found in Akagera National Park – they include lions, elephants, black rhinos, Buffaloes and leopards. They are called big five not because they are big in size but basing on their toughness in their wild.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_widget_sidebar sidebar_id=”td-default”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
